Amcom Cloud Collaboration is a virtual telephone system with a number of rich media features, including voicemail, instant messaging and video calling. It enables universities and other AARNet customers to outsource their traditional PABX or Voice-over-IP call manager to a service provider in the cloud on a monthly per user basis and removes the need to maintain the telephone infrastructure on campus.
To support the shift towards cloud services across the Research and Education sector, AARNet has established a program to make it easier for customers to connect to and use commercial cloud services, such as Amcom Cloud Collaboration. AARNet also recently announced a partnership with Box to provide the sector with the Box cloud file storage and collaboration solution.
The Amcom service will interconnect with AARNet’s Unified communications exchange (AUCX). The AUCX enables AARNet customers to route call between institutions directly over the AARNet network, including media-rich calls, such as videoconferencing.
Jamie Sunderland, AARNet’s Director Product Solutions says the Amcom platform enables AARNet customers to move from a capital and maintenance model to a consumption-based model for telephony and video communications. “They’re able to reduce ongoing costs by leveraging the scale of a cloud platform,” he said.
