SYDNEY, Australia – 13 May 2015 – Australia’s Academic and Research Network (AARNet) and AusCERT, a leading Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) for Australia today announced a new partnership to provide the Research and Education (R&E) sector with an extended range of IT and network security support services.
AARNet and AusCERT members in the R&E sector will now have direct access to a suite of networking, consulting and cyber security services.
The two organisations will collaborate to support enquiries and provide testing and remediation services, helping CIOs and other IT professionals manage the complexities of IT security in today’s rapidly changing technology environment.
The AARNet Enterprise Services team will bring professional services to the partnership, drawing on the latest security knowledge and best practice from the IT Security community across multiple industries in Australia and overseas.
“This new partnership is about supporting universities with a wider range of cost-efficient options for securing campus IT environments. This is just the beginning – our goal is to enable the innovation pipeline for research and education by continuously developing solutions for securing access to cloud and managed services, ” said James Sankar, AARNet’s Director Enterprise Services.
Thomas King, AusCERT’s General Manager said the new partnership with AARNet builds on the high quality threat intelligence and reporting AusCERT has been providing to members since 1993.
“Under the new partnership with AARNet, AusCERT will provide unique and cost effective cyber security services to the higher education sector within Australia and will build upon this base to strengthen the nation’s research and education network.”
AARNet Pty Ltd (APL) is the not for profit company that operates Australia’s Academic and Research Network (AARNet). The shareholders are 38 Australian universities and the CSIRO.
AARNet provides high capacity Internet and other communications services for the nation’s research and education community, including universities, health and other research organisations, schools, vocational training providers and cultural institutions. AARNet serves over one million end users who access the network for teaching, learning and research.
AusCERT is a leading Cyber Emergency Response Team for Australia providing information security services to its members since 1993. Our work includes providing threat intelligence and reporting to members by investing in world-class data analysis systems, providing new platforms for members to engage with our security analysts and with each other, and new services such as the Virtual Information Security Officer (VISO).
