John Batchelder, Manager Business DevelopmentTell us about your career before AARNet?

I have extensive experience in the higher education sector and have been in senior IT leadership roles for over a decade. My technical specialisation is within the infrastructure area however my management strength is related to the development of strategic initiatives that support the changing needs of the university environment. My credentials include undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in IT.

What does your role at AARNet involve?

I joined AARNET in December 2012 as Manager Business Development. I am responsible for seeking business opportunities and developing solutions that deliver the best research, teaching and learning outcomes for the Research and Education sector.

When you’re not working for AARNet?

I enjoy travelling and my trip to Europe last year was a highlight. Next on the list is exploring closer to home. I’m  planning to venture to remote parts of Australia in a 4WD vehicle that I’m currently fixing up.
